My name is Alyssa Martinez I’m the Technology Chair on the DM Exec board this year. I’m a Junior studying Elementary Education.
Tell us one fun fact about yourself.
I was born on Thanksgiving & it’s my favorite holiday!
Why did you become involved with Dance Marathon at FSU?
I became involved in Dance Marathon by word of mouth from friends on how wonderful it was, but also when I found out it benefited Shands Children’s Hospital. My sister was born premature and is still kicking today because of the wonderful people in the Shands NICU. They did so much for myself and my family. Knowing I could give back to something that affected my family so much and kept my sister alive made me sure Dance Marathon was a good fit for me.
What is your biggest personal goal for this year?
My biggest personal goal for this year is to know that all the videos we make, pictures we take and our website make a connection with dancers and our community to help them understand why Florida State is for the kids and wants to make miracles.
What is your biggest organizational goal for this year?
My biggest organizational goal for the year would be to raise awareness within our Tallahassee community and to raise as much money for the kids!
If you could sum up your love for DM in a sentence, what would you say?
My love for Dance Marathon is indescribable; just thinking of what we work so hard for all year and the the faces of our miracle children simply give me chills.
I feel like Buddy the Elf talking about candy and smiling when I talk about DM, I just love it and always have a smile on my face when I talk about it or hear the words FOR THE KIDS.
